A bacterial infection dangerous to infants can be spread by sexual activity, particularly oral sex, between men and women, new study findings show. Group B streptococcal infection GBS rarely makes healthy young adults sick, but it can cause health problems for pregnant women and babies and can sicken elderly people or those with existing medical conditions, said lead investigator Dr. Betsy Foxman. Infection in newborns can cause neonatal sepsis -- a massive and potentially fatal immune response -- and meningitis, which can lead to brain damage and death, Foxman said. Of every newborn babies infected with GBS, four to six will die," she said. The researchers evaluated heterosexual couples for the presence of GBS.

Oral HPV infection and sexuality: a cross-sectional study in women
Oral thrush produces slightly raised, creamy white, sore patches in your mouth or on your tongue. Oral thrush — also called oral candidiasis kan-dih-DIE-uh-sis — is a condition in which the fungus Candida albicans accumulates on the lining of your mouth. Candida is a normal organism in your mouth, but sometimes it can overgrow and cause symptoms. Oral thrush causes creamy white lesions, usually on your tongue or inner cheeks. Sometimes oral thrush may spread to the roof of your mouth, your gums or tonsils, or the back of your throat. Although oral thrush can affect anyone, it's more likely to occur in babies and older adults because they have reduced immunity; in other people with suppressed immune systems or certain health conditions; or people who take certain medications. Oral thrush is a minor problem if you're healthy, but if you have a weakened immune system, symptoms may be more severe and difficult to control.

Think about it: Oral sex puts you into contact with skin and body fluids—semen, vaginal fluids, blood, urine, feces, breast milk—any of which can contain disease-causing viruses or bacteria… And spitting out these fluids will not protect you from infection. Simple acts like shaving too close and flossing leave tiny cuts that can allow viruses and bacteria to enter the body. Sexually transmitted infections STIs that can be passed from one partner to another through oral sex include herpes, gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphillis and Human papillomavirus HPV. There are many brands, styles, types and flavors to choose from, so experiment to find one that works for you. Always have your barrier method of choice on hand.

Human papillomavirus infection is the most common sexually transmitted infection. The infection is caused by the human papilloma virus HPV. HPV can cause genital warts and lead to cervical cancer. Certain types of HPV can cause an infection in the mouth and throat.
